Milford Haven Port Authority announce plans to enhance milford marina through Partnership agreement
Milford Haven Port Authority (MHPA) today announced a new partnership with South Wales’ newest and most dynamic marina operating company ‘Cardiff Marine Group’. The marketing and investment partnership will be known as ‘Pembrokeshire Marine Group’ and its main remit will be to substantially increase the level of service provision for boat owners at Milford Marina.
Milford Marina, one of the two marinas located along Pembrokeshire’s beautiful Cleddau estuary, is and will remain, wholly owned by Milford Haven Port Authority but will be managed by ‘Pembrokeshire Marine Group’ under the terms of a long term management agreement.
Through the formation of ‘Pembrokeshire Marine Group’, Milford Marina will benefit from a planned development programme over the next few years; involving over £5m of joint investment from Milford Haven Port Authority and Cardiff Marine Group. The establishment of joint marketing initiatives and regular ‘flotilla cruises’ organised between Milford and Cardiff will also assist with raising the profile of Milford Marina.
In the first half of 2011, Milford Haven Port Authority will begin a programme of investment at the Marina which will include the rejuvenation of the berthing pontoons, the development of additional capacity and the creation of a new ‘launch on demand’ service for boat owners. It is anticipated that over the next few years, considerable additional investment will be made in the facilities and services offered at Milford Marina. Plans being considered include the introduction of a new locking system to enable access to the Marina and Docks at all states of the tide. Subject to market demand, Milford Haven Port Authority and Cardiff Marine Group are also also considering a joint investment in a new dry stack berthing facility.
Commenting on the new venture, Alec Don, Chief Executive of Milford Haven Port Authority, said “We strongly believe that the Marine Leisure sector is capable of playing a much larger role in the Pembrokeshire economy. Milford Haven Port Authority is committed to promoting Pembrokeshire as a whole and an integral part of this is the formation of ‘Pembrokeshire Marine Group’. We anticipate that this new promotional and management partnership will lead to significant investment over time into marine leisure facilities in Milford Haven.
“We are confident that as the market develops, as well as directly benefitting businesses in the immediate vicinity, Pembrokeshire Marine Group will attract other third party investors to the Town Centre of Milford Haven.”
Cardiff Marine Group will provide management input to Milford Marina through Nathan Hewitt; currently Business Development Manager at ‘Cardiff Marine Group’ and Managing Director of the independent specialist marina development company ‘Maritime Horizons’. Nathan has been appointed full time Managing Director of ‘Pembrokeshire Marine Group’ and his principal role will be to create a vibrant hub for marine leisure activity at Milford Marina as well as being responsible for every aspect of service improvement and delivery.
Nathan commented “I am genuinely excited to have been invited by Milford Haven Port Authority to join with them in this venture and I look forward to the opportunities it will bring to Pembrokeshire and to the marine leisure industry as a whole.
“Through the experience of the assembled team, significant capital investment and the fact that Pembrokeshire offers some of the most unique and captivating sailing in the UK, we envisage that Milford Marina will become a key destination for sailing enthusiasts.”
Cardiff Marine Group Director, Chris Odling-Smee, added: “This agreement marks a significant step forward for the provision of first class marine leisure facilities and services throughout Wales.”
